As a tenant you will (in most cases) be responsible to pay for the Gas/oil, electricity, council tax and water supply to the property. As we move you in we will record, with you, any relevant meter readings. We will also inform all the various utilities of the change of occupier for you free of charge to make the whole process a little easier. Any internet, phone, satellite or television services are for you to organise and you are responsible for a television license should you choose to use one.
It is not uncommon for large utility companies to make mistakes! and so we record everything regarding this on our system for future referral if need be. We advise tenants to avoid paying estimated bills as these may be incorrect. If you have not had a bill after a few weeks of moving in then we are happy to inform the utilities again after that you will need to contact them to organise bills etc.
From June 2009 we will be suggesting that tenants use the Utility warehouse (forms available from our office) for gas and electric supply as this will make it much easier to ascertain account status when you leave the property, this will help us ensure your deposit is returned as quickly as possible.
Please note we do not allow card/pre-payment meters to be installed in any property without the landlords consent (not to be unreasonably refused) and any cost incurred to correct this after you leave may be sought from your deposit.
